Venus transited* in front of the Sun on June 5, 2012, demonstrating with aplomb the enormity of our Sun´s perpetual life giving energy source. Venus is 0.81% the size of Earth. The Sun is 333,000 times larger than Earth and functions on our behalf as an enormous meta-nuclear reactor without the waste. The Sun´s energy streams 23,000 cubic miles of oil (cmo)** annually to the Earth´s surface, free of charge. Current annual consumption of oil is 1 cmo. Our total energy usage is 3 cmo per year, the 2 cmo difference being largely coal usage for electricity. The Global Village uses less than one-third of 1% of the Sun´s daily supply. Technology and innovation abound that enable us to singularly rely on the sun´s light photons and thermal heat. But without vision, we will perish as a civilization if we do not End our source of wars, i.e. Oil.
To "launch man to the moon and bring him back safely within the decade" are the famous words of President John F. Kennedy in 1961 that ignited nationalistic innovation fervor to send man to the moon. This single directive funded 600,000 engineers to jointly solve a problem riddled with risks well beyond the construction of the Ancient Pyramids, the erection of the Eiffel Tower, or -- transitioning our Spaceship Earth to run on Hydrogen.
Why Hydrogen? The rewards of overcoming perceived risks of shunning all Oil by ¨Just doing it¨ are self-evident. Economists are still unable to find ways to quantify The Apollo Project´s rewards to mankind. So too can be the economic-geopolitcal impact of even one small region turning to solar and hydrogen as its sole energy source. If just one country among all the Global Village would mandate itself to be the world´s first Hydrogen Economy, the model would be set in stone, and the rewards of non-reliance upon oil would begin to manifest. We advocate Chile. We challenge Chile to be Mankind's new Apollo, become a "G-21 Nation" defined by us as a nation willing to go Beyond Petroleum AND Climate Change rhetoric that we argue is holdin us all back from adopting real solutions. Chile would be giving the Global Village a new model to copy outside of Big Oil Scenario Plans -- self-serving analyses that pretend to tell us when and if we can transition to Hydrogen, only.
Mankind cannot afford to sit back and cede the next century of energy to Business As Usual (BAU) to Big Oil. Fracking gas and mining sands for tar is not a solution to a world in desperate need to move past the status quo and oil (currency) wars. Big Oil solutions, both energy and currency, expend more energy than they produce. A 21st century operating on fossil fuels is a simple math problem that just doesn´t add up. It is time the Global Village calls out for the Truth. Hydrogen is the most ubiquitious element in the Universe. Both Germany and Japan had Hydrogen Economies during WWII for the oil embargoes.
What will be this generation´s contribution to humanity´s opportunity for success? Leadership is sorely missing to rally mankind to achieve total reliance on the sun´s free, apolitical, abundance of non-depletable energy. From which country will the next John F. Kennedy stand up and simply mandate itself to become the world´s 1st Hydrogen Economy? and within the decade? Has Spaceship Earth herself, not already nominated the nation state of Chile, and this for its Atacama Desert that aligns with the world´s highest solar irradiation levels along the true ecliptic and in a desert as grand as Saudi Arabia itself. The technologies exist to capture and export her energy. Will innovation and vision be allowed to shine through? SOLMAXION 2021 is conceived as a single project that can be embraced by CHILE and all of The Americas alongside today´s crowd sourcing, internet based society.
